Yirim Seck was born April 9th 1981 in Seattle, Washington to Poppys Seck and Afua Wokoma. Second generation Senegalese. Yirim’s father came to America in the late 7o’s early 80’s to pursue his education and dreams of becoming a pilot. Shortly after arriving he met his soon to be wife, Afua Wokoma, who was a community activist, educator, and self employed jeweler in the historic Seattle Central District. The 5th of 10 children, Yirim was raised in a very large household; his father was master drummer specializing in traditional Senegalese music. Growing up Yirim was always surrounded by music, weather it was traditional music his father played or the sounds of Motown his mother loved so much.

The influence of music was always around, in the early 90’s, Yirim was introduced to Hip-Hop by his older brothers. Yirim soon started dabbling in the craft himself, what first started off as a hobby soon developed in to something much more. By age 15, Yirim had developed a passion for the art, and soon started showcasing his talent, participating in local talent shows, open mic’s, and poetry slams. At 15, Yirim was sent to meet his father’s side of the family and study abroad in Senegal. While he was there he was able to learn the local language of Wolof. Amongst his daily activities one of which was writing music, he would often time frequent different places getting to know the locals. What seemed to be inevitable, Yirim soon started mingling with other artist from the surrounding community.

Inspired by the fusion of Hip-Hop and traditional Senegalese music, Yirim soon became fully engulfed in the art of Hip-Hop. At age 19 Yirim returned to the United States to continue his education. Attending Seattle Central Community College, Yirim was immediately introduced to other local artist one of which was Kenyatto Amen who extended the invitation to be a part of his crew called Code Current. This group consisted of fellow members Ngiguna Gishuru 1/3 of the Seattle based group The Physics, and solo artist Terrence Jackson A.K.A Soul Seven. Code Current began making a name for them selves, gaining the opportunity to opening up for nationally recognizes recording artist which included, Gangstarr, Zion –I, Madusa, Cali Agents and many more

As time went on, the crew eventually split as everybody started to pursue different avenues. Yirim has been apart of many different groups. He was a part of Pyrate Radio which consisted of Rajnii Eddins, Yirim Seck, and Pearl Dragon. Coal Alias which was a group that consists of Yirim and Rajnii. Presenly, Yirim and close friend Larue, have formed a group called Black Aries. Even though Yirim is apart of a group, he still refers to himself as a solo artist. Yirim is out to brand his name and talents. Now, a full time father of a beautiful 3 year old daughter and a lady, Yirim is out to work hard and balance his passion of making music and family.

Dropping his long anticipated debut solo album, Yirim Seck “HEAR ME OUT” in Aug of 2009, rocking a packed house, Yirim is now one of the most requested artists in Seattle. His album is a culmination of tracks Yirim spent 3 years working on. The focus of the project is the day to day life of an Emcee doing the father thing, trying to support his family, and finance his music. The album content is very straight forward, utilizing the English vocabulary, Yirim gives you an intimate understanding of himself, weather you are listening to his song about male and female interaction where there is a child involved, his love for hip-Hop, or simply explaining the process of selling music on the streets in order to sustainable income. No doubt you will feel the emotion comes through the music and you can definitely feel and relate to it.

Some have described his music as being East Coast, reminiscent of Talib Kweli and Mos Def, others have said Dead Prez or The Roots. But regardless of who you would try to compare is style and flow to, you will all agree he has the lyrical content of a thinker who incorporates his life experience into his music. Yirim will bring it to you with a catch delivery, impeccable timing, and wordplay unlike any other. Yirim is definitely in a class of his own. If you have ever been to a Yirim Seck show, you will quickly realize he is not your average Emcee. The minute the beats drop, before he even opens his mouth to speak, your head will already be nodding in agreement. Yirim has worked and featured with a lot of artist coming out of the Seattle area including, Larue, Silent Lambs Project, Black Stax, The Physics, Amos Miller, Marcus D, Rising Sun, Khingz, Big World Breaks, and many more.

Yirim and Larue (Black Aries) have recently linked up with legendary Seattle based Hip-Hop group Black Stax (Silent Lambs, Felicia Loud, and Ouwar Arunga), and formulated a group called F.E.A.R., The Crew. Since 2007 the group has been blazin’ the scene in Seattle area.
