Darien

Darien, an independent singer, songwriter and producer, has evoked the brilliance of original soul music of decades past. The incredibly gifted musician captures a breadth of emotions by telling honest and complete stories. Darien's tales are so rich and soulful you can envision every verse. The Mount Vernon native has performed all over New York City including Joe's Pub and S.O.B.'s to audiences who are awestruck by his ability to match emotions to authentic lyrics.

Independent artists are often compared to big name singers to give context for their sound. Darien's music stands on its own. The tone and thickness of his voice, his phenomenal range, and his unique poetic ability are more comparable to the era of old soul than any one vocalist. He is an exceptional wordsmith whose music has hypnotized audiences from New York to DC to Europe.

Beginning in 1997, Darien was entrenched in music with his hip hop group, The Colab. His power on the mic exposed him not only to New York crowds at the Elbow Room and at Lincoln Center, but it also allowed him to grow as a writer and producer. Darien has been a humble student of music, with broad influences that range from A Tribe Called Quest to Hall and Oates to Donny Hathaway, the roots of Darien's music are grounded in quality.

The seductive and soothing melodies of his music linger well after the song is over. His love songs, infused with all the optimism a singer could fit into a five-minute composition, leave you feeling high. It's an overdose of romance filled with hope. Darien's creating a catalog that will satiate R & B fans' fix for quality, substance, and fun.

Darien's music is currently in rotation on XM and Sirius Satellite radio, Music Choice Smooth R & B station and locally in New York, Los Angles, Philadelphia, and Atlanta as well as overseas in the UK. He is featured on the soundtrack for 25 Strong, a documentary about a Pre-Teen, Brooklyn basketball tournament and available at www.cdbaby.com/25strong. Darien also completed an EP titled The Last Demo available at www.RighteousMusicMedia.com. His full-length album will be released this year on Righteous Music Records, a division of Righteous Music Media, LLC.

Nu Soul Magazine

There are no low points on this album. It’s polished yet not overproduced. Thoughtful lyrics about love and life combined with serious music, truly make this 15 track offering a gift from the heart. This really is ‘grown-folks’ music at its best.

Soul Bounce

Not sure when this is due to drop but is one well worth waiting for. A solid album all the way through with several danceloor friendly tracks...An excellent album, very well produced with many top tracks and heartily recommended ---Mike Ashley, Life and Soul Promotions, UK

Dusty Groove America, Inc

One of the strongest tracks we've heard from Bakura in years -- a cut that burst out of the box from the very first note, then explodes in a flurry of soaring keyboards and soulful vocals! Darien's the lead singer on the cut, and he brings a really classic club sensibility to the main mix -- and has a sound that adapts nicely to Domu's mix -- especially in some of the scatting vocals at the start, which really slide wonderfully over the beats! -------- Dusty Groove America, Inc. Dustygroove.com
Darien has also done a project with other Independent Male Vocalist who did their rendition of Mary J Blige songs from the "My Life" album. The project is called,"Men Love Mary" and features artists like Eric Roberson, TL Cross, D'Mo, Slakah the Beatchild, Jesse Boykins and a few others. Here is the free download link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/niaj6h

Darien's song "Composure" is up for Top Track Award 2009 in Europe on the website JazzandSoul.eu. Here is the link: http://jazzandsoul.eu/toptrackaward2009.htm
Darien won New Artist of the Year for Soultracks.com 2009 Readers' Choice Awards. http://www.soultracks.com/2009-awards Thanks to you all who voted, Chris at Soultracks, Jodine at Jodines Corner and All of you for the Love and Support for Darien, his music and the movement.

Quincy "Q Dot" Henry
With a skill set that includes MC, Producer, Songwriter, Pianist, Singer, Recording Engineer, Mixer and sometimes DJ, it'd be easy to compare the 25 year old Hip Hopper from musically diverse Seattle with prep school sensibilities to Pharell or Kanye West. Not just because the said skills if placed on a resume would look similar to Pharell's and Kanye's but because like them, Q Dot is without question convincingly good at each one. After talks with Interscope in 2002 failed
to amount to anything, Q Dot (born Quincy Henry coincidentally after producer Quincy Jones) who was then a Business Admin major at Central Washington University, left school to pursue his music career independently.

Though he may fit better in a lineup that includes the previously mentioned artists, Q Dot at his musical core has the traits of a $2 bill for hip hop: Charming, unique and hard to come by. Indulging in his new CD due out in August titled UNDERGROUND RAILROAD lends confirmation. Though quite adept at delivering the punchlines purist crave and making commercially bankable tunes, as with the CDs lead single, a raw minimalist track topped with a smooth flow and a witty 'blingless' take on how to be cool called “supafresh” he ultimately aims to teach and inspire his fans. Q explains, “I make projects that I hope will make people think. Death is Dying and of Underground Railroad were made with an idea and moral. I don't want to beat a topic over anyone's head in every song, but I want to drop something on you for sure. Music is supposed to evelate the mindstate.” From tracks like “snakes in the grass” which doesn't feature a single rap over a rugged slave hymned background, to “music” which features Q on two guitar solos, to the controversial poem “for sale” (slave auction 09) and the honest “froglegz n fishgrease” where he candidly explains the frustration dealing with an abstinent girlfriend, Q displays not only one-of-a-kind versatility, but also an approach to what hip hop is missing: A healthy mixture of fun and originality.

Q Dot isn't quite as new as one would think either. He's a popular name in the local scene of the Tacoma/Seattle area since emerging in 2002 with a group “The Knockout Kings”. Since disbanding, Q has produced for Koch recording artist Shyan
Selah and he also credits hisself as being “the least famous person ever to have video on national TV.” Q says that in reference to his 2007 video to “Hotter than a Furnace” from his debut CD Death is Dying. In addition he has also performed with a stellar list of hip hop stars including: Kanye West, Sir Mix a Lot, Zion I, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Lil Flip, Slim Thug and Bone Thugs n Harmony
.
