Yirim Seck was born April 9th 1981 in Seattle, Washington to Poppys Seck and Afua Wokoma. Second generation Senegalese. Yirim’s father came to America in the late 7o’s early 80’s to pursue his education and dreams of becoming a pilot. Shortly after arriving he met his soon to be wife, Afua Wokoma, who was a community activist, educator, and self employed jeweler in the historic Seattle Central District. The 5th of 10 children, Yirim was raised in a very large household; his father was master drummer specializing in traditional Senegalese music. Growing up Yirim was always surrounded by music, weather it was traditional music his father played or the sounds of Motown his mother loved so much.

The influence of music was always around, in the early 90’s, Yirim was introduced to Hip-Hop by his older brothers. Yirim soon started dabbling in the craft himself, what first started off as a hobby soon developed in to something much more. By age 15, Yirim had developed a passion for the art, and soon started showcasing his talent, participating in local talent shows, open mic’s, and poetry slams. At 15, Yirim was sent to meet his father’s side of the family and study abroad in Senegal. While he was there he was able to learn the local language of Wolof. Amongst his daily activities one of which was writing music, he would often time frequent different places getting to know the locals. What seemed to be inevitable, Yirim soon started mingling with other artist from the surrounding community.

Inspired by the fusion of Hip-Hop and traditional Senegalese music, Yirim soon became fully engulfed in the art of Hip-Hop. At age 19 Yirim returned to the United States to continue his education. Attending Seattle Central Community College, Yirim was immediately introduced to other local artist one of which was Kenyatto Amen who extended the invitation to be a part of his crew called Code Current. This group consisted of fellow members Ngiguna Gishuru 1/3 of the Seattle based group The Physics, and solo artist Terrence Jackson A.K.A Soul Seven. Code Current began making a name for them selves, gaining the opportunity to opening up for nationally recognizes recording artist which included, Gangstarr, Zion –I, Madusa, Cali Agents and many more

As time went on, the crew eventually split as everybody started to pursue different avenues. Yirim has been apart of many different groups. He was a part of Pyrate Radio which consisted of Rajnii Eddins, Yirim Seck, and Pearl Dragon. Coal Alias which was a group that consists of Yirim and Rajnii. Presenly, Yirim and close friend Larue, have formed a group called Black Aries. Even though Yirim is apart of a group, he still refers to himself as a solo artist. Yirim is out to brand his name and talents. Now, a full time father of a beautiful 3 year old daughter and a lady, Yirim is out to work hard and balance his passion of making music and family.

Dropping his long anticipated debut solo album, Yirim Seck “HEAR ME OUT” in Aug of 2009, rocking a packed house, Yirim is now one of the most requested artists in Seattle. His album is a culmination of tracks Yirim spent 3 years working on. The focus of the project is the day to day life of an Emcee doing the father thing, trying to support his family, and finance his music. The album content is very straight forward, utilizing the English vocabulary, Yirim gives you an intimate understanding of himself, weather you are listening to his song about male and female interaction where there is a child involved, his love for hip-Hop, or simply explaining the process of selling music on the streets in order to sustainable income. No doubt you will feel the emotion comes through the music and you can definitely feel and relate to it.

Some have described his music as being East Coast, reminiscent of Talib Kweli and Mos Def, others have said Dead Prez or The Roots. But regardless of who you would try to compare is style and flow to, you will all agree he has the lyrical content of a thinker who incorporates his life experience into his music. Yirim will bring it to you with a catch delivery, impeccable timing, and wordplay unlike any other. Yirim is definitely in a class of his own. If you have ever been to a Yirim Seck show, you will quickly realize he is not your average Emcee. The minute the beats drop, before he even opens his mouth to speak, your head will already be nodding in agreement. Yirim has worked and featured with a lot of artist coming out of the Seattle area including, Larue, Silent Lambs Project, Black Stax, The Physics, Amos Miller, Marcus D, Rising Sun, Khingz, Big World Breaks, and many more.

Yirim and Larue (Black Aries) have recently linked up with legendary Seattle based Hip-Hop group Black Stax (Silent Lambs, Felicia Loud, and Ouwar Arunga), and formulated a group called F.E.A.R., The Crew. Since 2007 the group has been blazin’ the scene in Seattle area.

Black Stax

Black Stax is the avant-garde of hip-hop. Comprised of MCs Silas Black and Jace ECAj and vocalist Felicia Loud, Black Stax pulls lyrical inspiration from today’s news headlines and creates an eclectic, urban sound that is reminiscent of The Roots and The coup with a dash of the early Fugees and classic Janice Joplin.

In a recent review, The Stranger said “what defines Loud is…is her flawless command of the tones and textures of American Soul…what defines [the MCs] is their commitment to a hip hop that is complicated at the levels of ideas and expression, politics and language.” Black Stax makes creative, challenging and emotional music with an injection of hip hop and 70s-era soul. “Our sound is the soul of a songbird full of parables and riddles. We speak to the streets, classrooms, clubs and community,” explains Jace ECAj. "It’s more than hip hop, R&B or soul, it’s more of a classic combination like Soul 2 Soul and Groove Theory or just dope ass vibe music" adds Blak.

Besides their unparalleled sound, what sets Black Stax apart is their ability to put on a memorable live show. Individually they are veteran performers and collectively they are masters of setting a vibe and drawing in an audience.

Felicia Loud is a born performer, an impressive stage actress and has a reputation for packing live music venues both big and small. The Seattle Times called her “more than good – she’s a wonder.” Fellow Black Stax member Silas Blak explains “Felicia brings light to our darkness, clarity to women and intrigues men.”

Silas Blak and Jace ECAj, of the The Silent Lambs Project, have been a Seattle hip-hop staple since the 1990’s. ”At every Silent Lambs Project concert they remind the audience that ‘this is serious music.’ It's not ‘innocent’ ass-shaking rap, or thugged-out ‘reality’ rap, and it isn't watery ‘elevated-consciousness’ rap, either…[they] have figured out is not to make reactionary rap that provides answers, but to maintain rap as a challenge. As a result, they write complex, refreshing songs,” raved The Stranger.

A collaboration that works, Black Stax successfully blends musical genres and attracts a varied and supportive following. They have appeared at Seattle’s popular music venues such as Rendezvous Jewel Box Theater, Contour, ETG, Langston Hughes Performing Art Center, ACT and Chop Suey, at the Malcolm X Hip Hop Festival and on the national Dope Emporium Tour.

Black Stax is in the studio working on their debut album due out in 2010
and will be touring throughout 2009 into 2010

FELICE BOIS
Writer. Spoken Word Artist. Social Activist. Actress.
Author of 'GEN EYES WIDE.'

Born Felicia Boissiere - her pen name by choice: “Felice Bois,” (Writer, Actress, A'capella Spoken Word Recording Artist) is an Oakland, California native whose life challenges as a single mother and a Black woman could no longer go hidden or unspoken. From birth until the age of twelve, Felice was raised by various fosters parents and by close family members. She moved around often between the cities of Long Beach and Berkeley, California. As a teenager she had an introverted personality – spoke when spoken to, at times walked with her head down and contributed to a conversation when and if it interested her. She loved to dance and had a select few friends. During the summer school breaks and after school, at the age of sixteen, she began supporting herself by working several part-time jobs to buy her own clothes and shoes. In 1987 Felice dropped out of high school to pursue her duties as a teen mother to her first born child Andrew.

In 1994 Felice received an acceptance letter to attend California State University Hayward to study Sociology as a full-time student. In 1996 Felice realized that she did not recognize her true direction in life so she discontinued her studies at CSU Hayward. Shortly after her discontinuance of her college studies, she was hired as a part-time employee to work for a local packaging company. While working at the packaging company she had a brief romantic involvement with a co-worker (unnamed). In 1999 her daughter Cora was born. Shortly after her daughter was born, she quit her job with the packaging company to raise her daughter. While caring for her two children Felice struggled financially and was ready to go back to work. She had difficulty securing a full-time job, so in 2002 she decided to pursue a career in the booming real estate industry as a licensed real estate agent.

Life went on, unforgettable good days passed and her joy filled son with the million dollar smile was no longer a baby boy. She saw her son trying to become a man – taking life head on. As she witnessed her son’s struggle with peer pressure, family issues and a lack of positive male role models it was then that Felice realized that her voice was not loud enough - she was not her son’s only influence. It was through his pain, his struggle that she recognized the struggle of all young Black men. In the summer of 2003, Felice began to channel her feelings in her journal about the issues she discovered and hoped to one day help resolve. After a long haul of tears in the principal’s office, juvenile court dates, jail visits, collect calls, letters, miles traveled, probation officers, long suffering and to the gates of hell and back, in the Fall of 2008 her first spoken word album Gen Eyes Wide was born which she wrote and produced, under her record label Modern Day Black Momma Records. A powerful vocal delivery of the Spoken Word is performed with the voice of authority and assertiveness, gracefulness and humility.

Felice says: “Had it not been for my faith in God, I would have never found the strength to go on. I understand that youth from all cultural backgrounds deal with similar issues but I was inspired to talk to young Black men because so many young Black men set themselves up as targets for government officials to arrest and jail, and even their own peers are sometimes their worst enemies. I’m speaking to those young men who are struggling in their minds and want to move ahead in life. Open your eyes before it's too late to really live. Most importantly I want troubled young Black men to know that they have a higher purpose in life, but they must be willing to listen and learn to evolve into the men they have the potential to become. I hope that my voice is loud enough this time.”

The latest buzz about Felice’s next project; her self titled book: Self-Afflicted Genocides of the Black Male Youth: Survive the Process is scheduled for release in Fall of 2010. She is currently working on her second album and plans to release three more Spoken Word albums in the near future, aiming her focus primarily on world and family issues.

Cendrine Marrouat
"Soul Poetry"

Soul Poetry

Cendrine defines poetry as "the language of the soul". Her body of work follows this definition very closely. Focusing almost exclusively on spirituality, her positive messages have helped many readers to reconnect with God and face their fears, especially death.

Independent, driven, and hardworking, her ultimate goal is to (re-)educate audiences about poetry. And she has partly achieved it. As one of her readers says, "you seem to have found a way to accomplish something the "experts" said couldn't be done: popularize poetry. Kudos to you!". Her show, "Poetic Moments", will also further her objectives.

Cendrine is the author of "And They All Rejoiced! Soul-Stirring Poetry", "Short Poetry for Those Who Fear Death", "Sortons des chemins battus. Poésie de l'âme", "Project: Heartbeats and Elevation", and "Rizen-The CD".

Feel free to visit her website at: http://www.soulpoetrysite.com. From there, you will access her blog, her store, her networks, and much more..."

POEMS

I have chosen two poems that are already published on my poetry blog.

A PARTICLE OF YOU

There is a particle of you
That I will love, always.
A speck of tenderness
Mixed with a grain of happiness
That I remember, always.
You are greater than you think.

That particle of you
Is a gift to the world.
It contains the essence
Of a bashful infant soul
That will soon grow.
Some may tease you,
But I never ever will.

Because, that particle of you
Is a speck of tenderness
Mixed with a grain of happiness.
And it is a gift to the world
That I will treasure until
It is time for us to part.

There is a particle of you
That I will love, always.

GOD

Grandiose scope of mankind's mind,
Osmotic Father of molecules and Words,
Divine knowledge of the All and Only,

Great thinker behind the greatest ideas,
Openhearted and endless evolution
Dawning upon those who know and care,

Gently, slowly, you let us embrace you.
Openly, you love us, whatever our faults.
Dignified, you make us feel!

God you are, and God you'll stay.
On top of everything, you'll shine,
Dancing joyously with the stars.

God you are, and God you'll stay,
Omnipotent until the end of all, and
Divine opulence of the Soul!

I shall believe in you, always,
For every second of infinity.
And infinity is a country that loves
The pure and untamed at heart!

Excerpt from Taste: An Erotic Fantasy Series, Book I

Beneath a sweltering noonday sun, the prickling sensation in her fingertips began to spread. Profuse sweating and violent hallucinations followed as the world around her swirled in the purplish haze of a narcotic high. Time slid to a sluggish halt the moment she closed her eyes, helplessly watching the blinding blue dance with screaming red behind her eyelids. Phase One of the shape-shift brought about a hurt so intense that all thought quickly became a dizzying distortion of memory. Painless movement was no longer an option. The splintering feel of tiny sand granules beneath her skin became an extrasensory nightmare. Simple breathing was a labor all its own as she prepared for the inevitable wave of agony. The tortured moan never received the opportunity to escape her lips. A blistering surge below her navel descended through her large fin etched with thick, overlapping golden scales. She attempted to steady her shallow breaths when an oddly pitched tone joined the ringing in her ears. A horrid visual affirmed what she'd already known; she was ripping in two. White heat coursed through her thinly stretched veins while layers of skin pushed out of the scales in droves only to absorb them again and finally diffuse into dark brown pigment. Muscle enveloped itself over the soft cartilage now hardening into bone as joints slid and popped in place with an unknown precision.

Eyes closed tightly; no energy remained to watch the remainder of her transformation. She gagged on the acidic bile coating her tongue and attempted to home in on the song in the distance. Mental strength prevailed as her erratic breaths matched the melodious tune, riding it peacefully like the wind. Slowly her body's temperature lowered, stabilized, and cooled. Strands of wet hair clung to her cheeks, ears, and forehead, partially obstructing her view of the sea nearby. She fought to open her eyes. The familiar, five-foot wide golden-scaled fin was gone and a foreign pair of legs and feet had taken its place. Carefully, she turned her head, lifting it just centimeters from the sunbathed beach. Peering cautiously into the blinding sunlight, she observed the countless bodies lying in recovery on the white sand. Clarity slowly penetrated her hazy thoughts; and from the looks of it, the others were just as out of sorts as she. Lying back down with a soft thud, she drifted. It was time to heal.

Title: Taste
Author: B. Sharise Moore
ISBM: 978-160585-198-3
Genre: Fantasy/Drama

Flava Rating: 9 snaps
Amazon Rating: 5

Taste by B. Sharise Moore is a combination of writing styles in one. It incorporates drama, fantasy and erotica. Taste is about a colonization that starts out as one, splitting into different groups and co-existing outside of one another. It appears some served a purpose for each other, while other groups kept their distance with respect or so it seems. The customs of the "Ido" group in this book is the main focus, sharing of their traditions and rituals. The Mers, The Painted Folk, Sphinx and Djinn are some of the other groups that play supporting roles in the telling of the Ido's story. The Ido's are separated into two groups; the Elder and the Youth. These two groups hold very strong traditions that mark their existence and purpose. They are thrown off when a stranger appears, sharing with them of a different life and way of thinking. This causes much conflict amongst their people, sadly ending in war between the Elders and the Youth. The Elders, being the group that is swayed by these strangers' teachings, led to the Youth's disappointment. The Youth held strong to the traditions of their culture, while the new teaching created frustration and anger, as they desired to keep things as they had always been. Part of the traditions of the Ido's was when it came to choosing a mate; your mate was not chosen for love, but merely for procreation to continue the existence of their people. What do you do if you fall in love when it is not an accept emotion to feel or openly express, was the concern going through the minds of two of the youth. When the stranger, known as The Guide comes into the lives of the Elder, it happens during the very important ritual period for the Youth which leads up to the final rite of Taste. Confusion is felt all around, regarding the rites of Taste vs. loving your mate, the expectations of marriage and loyalty to your beginnings and ones people. To have all this turmoil taking place during the season for the rites of Taste and the outcome of war from it, changed the way of life for all the groups involved.

B. Sharise Moore...took literature to a new level with incorporating all the different groups, elements and storylines. Weaving them all into one great read...while painting you a picture with her words. Her approach to telling this story allowed me to feel as if I was watching it all unfold in front of my eyes. At first one might think there were too many entities to keep up with, but with Ms. Moore's mastery of words and storytelling, she pulled them all together where it made sense to me. I am a hard sell when it comes to erotica, but the way Ms. Moore presented the erotica twist and turns, I will admit at this point and time, it is the best that I have read.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves to read a story about groups of people that co-exist at times with respect, sensuality, while other times with such a need of power & control that life seems to fall apart with rapid speed that you don't know which way to turn and how it will all end. The endearment of the choosing of mates, to the eroticisms the youth share may leave you tingling. Although this is a fantasy fiction, so much in my opinion could be a reflection of life as we know it in the real world. We experience the sense of inclusiveness, to separation, to rivals, while trying to take out the old and bring in the new. We experience the challenges of defining intimacy and relationships. All of this is in this book, just shared in a different light. Taste by B. Sharise Moore is one of the best books I have read in a while as a book reviewer and it captured me as a reader and a fan. I so look forward to future writings by this gifted writer, B. Sharise Moore.

LaRue

Larue

Song writer, and Musician "LaRue" was born JaWaan LaRue in Seattle, Washington in 1981. He began his musical venture at the early age of 14 doing High School talent shows, pep assemblies, and local city festivals with his group "The Elements". After graduating high school he decided to join the Army to avoid street trouble and make something of his life. LaRue ended up serving 8 yrs in the Army including one deployment overseas in 2004-2005 for Iraqi freedom. During his deployment he recorded an album titled "Hard Headed" that never was released.

After returning home he teamed up with super producer Rising Son, and Marcus D to form an alliance called "City of Dreams". After releasing his single "Certified Hip Hop" he began receiving media attention. His music began getting spins on: Kube 93.3, Kexp Street Sounds 90.3, KBCS 91.3, and he also made several appearances on the popular public access channel show "Hip Hop 101 T.V.". He's done numerous of shows up and down the west coast with names such as NeYo, Del the Funky Homosapien, Souls of Mischeif, Mr. Lif and many more.

His style has been quoted to be, "Grown and Sexy but Gutter". This young man has touched many people with songs such as: "Rise Up" explaining the struggle of African Americans and the equality of all people. "I'm A soldier" explaining his War experience in words that paint a picture for anyone to see. His music is the future. He's got a gift that not many pose. The ability to paint pictures with words.
Media Quotes:

"Dude has an aggressive revolutionary flair reminiscent of Dead Prez, but I suspect he's influenced more by his life than he is by the works of other politically-minded MCs. "
Kevin Capp
Seattle Weekly

"I first caught my man at Obese's last "Make It or Break It" show, and he got my attention from jump with his confident stage presence and hard-hitting bars. My immediate reaction was, "Why haven't I heard of this guy before"? His debut album, I Can Only Be Me, strikes an honest and oft-neglected balance-street but not gangsta, thoughtful but not emo, underground but not backpack. LaRue's commanding voice sounds good over both the keyboard-heavy and dustier, 9th Wonder-esque beats, his flow is way solid, his punch lines are clever, and his hooks hook you; LaRue is a real MC, and this LP is a further testament to the variety of hungry talent bubbling in Seattle."

Quarter After - Is a duo of Mc and Producer. The Mc is Justis. He's a young man with a bright future. He attends college at Seattle U and contains some sick lyrical word play. The Producer Marcus D. Marcus D is a super producer on the rise rapidly. He's not only signed to a major label in Japan but just recently won the Big Tune Producers battle in 2009. They are known for their style of dance called "Jerking" and all kind of other styles. What's special about them is they are teenagers with positive attitudes. There not in the streets gangbanging or selling dope, there a group of friends using their spare time to be creative through dance.
