We Belong Together
by Barbara Grovner

It’s hard to imagine the death of a close family member. Especially when it is someone you admire and look up to, and most especially when it is your very own sister. It’s also hard to imagine why anyone would want your sweet and loving sister dead. Who could possibly want to hurt her, let alone kill her?

Kara’s death caused deep heartache among those who loved her, but soon it became apparent that her killer was someone who knew her, and knew her
very well.

An extensive and painstaking investigation, rattles and shakes
the lives of those who loved Kara, until the truth comes tumbling out.

We Belong Together will be released by InnerVision Books this Spring.

Mike Goudreau

Jazz/Blues Recording Artist

http://www.mikegoudreau.com/

Born in 1965 in Newport, Vermont into a musical family with an English mother and a French-Canadian father, Mike Goudreau picked up his first guitar at age 14 and hasn't stopped playing since. His early influences included the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Ricky Skaggs, Johnny Cash, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, and later, Albert King, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Powder Blues and Downchild - to name a few. Such diverse interests help to explain why Mike is confortable in so many musical genres, especially jazz and blues.

For the past two years, Mike has been working on getting his many songs published for Film/TV in the U.S. And Europe. His hard work has paid off with over 450 songs signed to date and placements on such TV shows as '' Everybody Hates Chris '' on CW , '' Dirty Sexy Money '' on ABC, ''Army Wives'' on Lifetime and ''Kath & Kim'' on NBC most notable. Recently 29 of his songs were signed to be part of 5 Jazz CD box sets distributed in Europe and Asia with Sony/BMG and Universal .

In the early 90s Mike formed the Boppin Blues Band. Taking its name (and some of its style) from Vancouver's Powder Blues Band, the BBB blew into the Canadian music scene with an independently CD - Sold Out 1994- with 10 songs running the gamut from solid Chicago blues to jazz influenced 40s & 50s swing/jump/shuffle and a few country and gospel tunes thrown in for good measure. It showcases superb guitar work and vocals from Mike with a great back line of drums, bass, piano, horns and harp. Upon hearing it, Andy 'Blues Boy" Grigg of Real Blues Magazine called them one of the most talented bands in Canada.

I Dig My Job (1996) featured mostly original tunes including a couple en français, which was unique. Real Blues Magazine continued its love affair with the band rating it as one of the 5 best blues CDs in Canada that year and named them as Best Group in Eastern Canada for 1996-97. They were also nominated as Best New Artist at Canada's Maple Blues Awards in 1997. A California radio station (KKUP FM) placed I Dig My Job in the Top 25 Blues CDs for that year!

Happy Go Lucky (1999) with 9 of 13 songs originals. More accolades: Real Blues Magazine called it one of the 5 best CDs of the Year and named the Boppin Blues Band as Best Swing Band and Best Unsigned Band in Canada. It was also nominated by Maple Blues for Best Album.

The following year Mike indulged his passion for his other favorite musical genre - jazz - when he released Stardust Memories (2000), a compilation of 14 classics including Route 66, The Lady is a Tramp, and Don't Get Around Much Anymore.

In 2001 Mike received a Research and Creation Grant from the Quebec Arts Council and produced Nous avions rendez-vous (2001) on the Montreal based Bros label ... 12 original blues tunes all in French! They were invited to the " Francofolies " in Montreal as well as a live recording captured by CBC's " Silence On Jazz " broadcast coast to coast.

Thank You Louis (2002), a tribute to the great Louis Armstrong. It was, and still is, very popular in Quebec garnering him numerous interviews with Radio-Canada, CBC Radio/TV and sell-out live shows.

My Favorite Time (2004) of the Year is a sweet, personalized collection of original and classic Christmas tunes featuring silky smooth vocals, great horns, clarinet, piano, cello and jazzy guitar work garanteed to put you in the Christmas spririt .

The Grass Ain't Greener (2006), Mike moved away from the big band style that characterized the Boppin Blues Band. The Mike Goudreau Band stripped down to guitar, drums, bass, keyboards and some great wailing harp and slide guitar from Harmonica Zeke. You get a great mix of rockin, swingin, up-tempo blues - 8 of the 12 songs are originals!!

Boppin 15 (2007) the new CD contains 15 cuts with 11 originals and 4 covers. Over the years some of the band members have changed but this album, as with all the previous, still boasts some of the best rhythm and brass musicians in Quebec along with some very special guests including Peter Brown on piano, Didier Dumoutier on accordian and the great Harmonica Zeke on harmonica.

Blues Et Cetera (2009), rich with 15 new original songs. The works include various styles and grooves such as reggae, singer/songwriter, rock, country and world music influences as well as Texas, Chicago, funk and swing blues for which Goudreau has been renowned for the past 17 years.

Over the past decade Mike has performed at some of the most prestigious Jazz & Blues Festivals in Eastern Canada including a record number 7 appearances at the Montreal Jazz Festival, 6 times at the Tremblant International Festival de Blues, 6 appearances at the Edmundston Jazz and Blues Festival, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Rimouski, 3 times at the Maximum Blues de Carleton, Fredericton's Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival, Saint John Jazz Festival and Festival by the Sea.

In September of 2008 Mike was invited to the '' Playing With Fire '' Blues Festival in Omaha Nebraska accompanied by members of Chicago's '' Mississippi Heat '' and had raving reviews for their performance. When asked why he plays both jazz and blues Mike replies: "I get bored doing just one type of music. I love jazz for its beautiful melodies, chords, and improvisation. I love blues for its energy, soul and milking its three-chord structure. I enjoy playing rock 'n roll too. But no matter what music I play it has to SWING!"

What some of the blues media have to say about Mike Goudreau:

“ Well, if Mike Goudreau and his boys were looking for the sunshine with their new album, they certainly found it! Lay the sunscreen heavy ‘cause this one is a real scorcher!” Dan Behrman, Producer/Host, Espace Musique / Radio-Canada, March 2010

" I love Mike's easy going, confident approach to music. Backed by sympathetic players, that approach results in a cool effortless swing whatever the groove. He shows his 'big picture' love and understanding of the blues in his guitar playing and songwriting. I'm happy to help spread the word by playing his music on CBC Radio's Saturday Night Blues and on Galaxie. " Holger Petersen June 2009

"A hearty vocalist and effective guitarist who plays snarling, tightly wound leads...A highly enjoyable set. Tom Hyslop, Blues Revue Magazine, USA, Dec/Jan 2008

"Goudreau plays lead guitar with the tone and taste of greats like Otis Rush and Albert King, and writes compelling, original songs". Jeremy Loome, Edmonton Sun, 2007

"Quality Canadian blues...solid and unpretentious...swings with snappy sincerity and crisp energy” Hal Horowitz, Blues Revue Magazine, USA Oct/Nov 2006 Issue

“ Undiluted blues from one of the purest players on the Canadian scene” Al Kirkcaldy, CFFF 92.7 FM, Peterborough, ON

“… A rockin’, rompin’, stompin’ good time….solid, creamy, tight and tasty licks executed with precision and class” Billie Lucas, CHLY 101.7 FM, Nanaimo BC

“Goudreau is a natural. He leads a great band with exciting original songs that dare you to sit still” John Valenteyn, Maple Blues, Toronto Blues Society

" The Grass Ain't Greener " est un de ces albums racés qui font figure de référence dans une carrière, aussi riche et chargée soit elle ! Fred Delforge, zicazic.com, France

It was a pleasure for me to meet The Dubber when he came to Seattle the middle of April. Having the opportunity to sit with this man, this artists that I have communicated with for years online...now he sits in front of me and we talked as if we have know each other forever. Then the time came for him to get on the mic at the Seamonster Lounge in the Wallingford community of North Seattle. The crowd was small and the venue was cozy but when he hit the first note with is voice and guitar...it took me to another place...feeling the vibe and soul of his unique sound. Hearing his tracks over the years does not begin to compare to hearing him in person.

This was a true treat for me to experience The Dubber in person.

Lady Flava's Corner

Coolout 19
April 3, 2010
The Crocodile
Seattle, WA

Lady Flava & Georgio Brown

My Experience at Coolout 19

Arriving at 7:30pm my daughter Brittany & son Money Mike (later to be joined by PLip, a family friend) were greeting by Kitty Wu at the door. Moving into The Crocodile we meet David Pablo Narvaez aka Pablo D. and then Christine Harper...You just don't know how wonderful it was to finally meet some of the people that I have been connected to only online. Christine was gracious and escorted us up to the V.I.P. Then it was on...

This was my first time out in such a long time. What a wonderful way for me to step out on the town after being in my leopard cave for so long :-). Joining hundreds of people as we witness Hip Hop at it's finest!

Latching onto an empty table right next to the rail and right above the stage, I nestle myself in for what I know is going to be an amazing experience. I had the perfect view of all the V.I.P.'s coming up to the loft area to all that came in the door...watching the main floor fill up right before my eyes. I pull out my little pink laptop and start to take my notes, helping me document in my own way what takes place from start to finish at Coolout 19.

Greeting more people like Arianna Lancastria, Glen Boyd, Che Blaq, Jay Dot, Sharmaine "Purple" Tramble, Rcurtis Fantpayne Jamerson of The Emerald City Street Boys, Cynthia Guyton of Baby Girl Promotions, RC Croone from Cidewayz Productions to Mike Clark and his beautiful lady, Lisa. Bettina Carey, Melody Ivory & Glow Medina. Of course, I saw my boys Yirim Seck with his beautiful lady, Kinnetta & LaRue. Throughout the evening I met an array of people and artists...giving out business cards and receiving business cards all night long. Of course, I was greeted by the man that is Mr. Coolout himself, Georgio Brown. Georgio has a way of making you feel that you are where you are suppose to be at that moment when you are around him. You can feel his heart with just his presence...and he took that aura onto the stage about 9:30pm as he opens the showcase and greets the massive crowd.

NOTE: Now, I have to put a side note here before I get started. I apologize if I missed anyone's names and / or missed spelled them...this was my first time on the scene and I tried very hard to catch everything, but...

DJ Gumbo along with CD4 is spinning and building a energy as the house fills and the anticipation is felt in the air.

Melody Ivory sets the tone for the evening as she asks everyone to clear their minds and breathe...leaving the world at the door...asking that we allow this evening of Hip Hop to be all that we are there to create and experience...sharing with us a beautiful poetry piece " Hip Hop is more...Hip Hop is about connecting...take our place as the Hip Hop Legacies..." and the evening is on.

Coming to the stage is the B-Boys; Roofio, Massive Monkeys and Pablo D. The tone was set and the fiyah was present big time. Next to the stage is Laura "Piece" Kelley sharing a message from Papa John as the evening moves into a smooth reggae feel from Steel G, transitioning into the infamous Silver Shadow who was brought to the stage by Preach & Teach with a few of their old school moves. After Silver Shadow D, Preach & Teach introduces Candidt with Maya Jenkins, Xp & Brotha Brown...who is followed up by E-Dawg coming out acapello to be joined by 7 of his boys.

About 10:30pm the energy is high as Khingz brings it with his own personal flair...this was a treat for me since I had come to know of Khingz from Kitty Wu and had featured him some months back in my newsletter, now to be able to experience him in person was a treat. No disappointments for me nor anyone else in the building. Joining Khingz is Hill B and then B-Flat (High Life Sound System.)

Georgio comes out on the stage and asks everyone to take out their cellphones out to text or twitter their people to either get down to The Crocodile or to log onto www.itvnw.com to watch the showcase live.

Xola...comings to the stage with his boys...bringing the hype. Closing out his set with a piece called "Change" great message....It's time to make a change...

After Xola finishes up his performance...we go into a short break and then Wojack hits the stage along with some of his people. Next to the stage was DJ DDox continuing the energy and hype...it was a treat for me to experience since my daughter Mariko used to help him promote back in the day and look at him now. Reji Lefluer Trio...this was also a treat for me after hearing so much about he and his talents from Arianna Lancastria.

Taking another short break...okay folk text somebody and let them know about Coolout 19 :-)

With a new twist and pleasant surprise Catherina Brown, Georgio's sister bring her team that their flair with a nothing better than Styles of Steppin' (Chicago Steppin' Style) 3 couples...switching up partners as they show us how you can step to anything...bring on the final couple to take Steppin' to a new level. I just have to say the beautiful woman Steppin' had on some, to die for shoes.

Coming to the stage is J. Pinder and Spaceman from Sportn' Life Records. Closing out his set with an inspirational piece called " Go Far."

Georgio Brown lets everyone know that for Coolout 20 will be the completion of Top Left Documentary on Seattle's Hip Hop History. Tonight's event was also a fundraiser to help complete this special project that will be shown at the London Film Festival in April 2011.

DJ Topspin spins like no other...taking us into the female group known as Canary Sings...to bee joined on stage by La or Lau...they were amazing. Following them is the one and only...no one like him...Sonny Bonoho....doing it the way that only Sonny Bonoho could do it. I appreciate this mans hard work and dedication to his craft...he was out and about all night handing out fliers for his CD release party coming up.

Next to the stage is Meeze followed by G. Pres & Cheezaleo...boy I might have blown it on these names...lol

12:35am...another short break before bringing on...the legends of Seattle's Hip Hop

Piece....introduces...Vitamin D who asks for a moment of silence for Greg Thompson a great support and active member of the Hip Hop community of Seattle.

D. Black...comes to the stage at 12:50 am and the energy is still high!!! Wonderful to see my family on stage with an amazing stage presence...staying true to himself... remembering when he was a child and look at the man and artists he has become today. D.Black your family is so very proud of you!

Audio Poet...heads to the stage as DJ Shufflehead(?)...SugaBear spin the tracks.

1:10am...they announce that The Emerald Street Boys are heading to the stage...they took their time coming onto the stage or was there technical difficulties, could it be it was part of the hype...they were wanting the audience to wait in great anticipation? Georgio steps onto the stage, camera in hand as Scott Macklin who has been busy the who night filming this historical event, then turn the cameras on each other.

1:17pm...James Croones from The Emerald City Boys calls his son D.Black to the stage...then bringing RC Croones (RC Tha Trackaholiq) and then RCurtis Fantpayne Jamerson hits the stage. The Emerald City Street Boys aka Sugar Bear (Edward Wells), Captain Crunch (James Croone), and Sweet J (RCurtis Fantpayne Jamerson)...bringing us back to the days when Hip Hop all began in Seattle. What a treat...I have only seen RCurtis perform with Soul Stay Shun...I have heard the stories and read pieces here and there...but now I had the opportunity to witness...I understand where props come from now....The Emerald City Street Boys re-united for this night and what an experience it was. So as they left the audience waiting for them to hit the stage...we were not left disappointed.

1:27am Antonio'Bandanez followed up by Piece and Lady Tazs coming to the stage at 1:30am with their track called "It's Official." They close out the show, ending this long but amazing evening still on a high note...with hype and energy permeating the building.

The crowd was ready to continue the part but unfortunately, The Crocodile said that we have to be out of here by 1:45...and not all the acts were able to perform...it was disappointing to those artists that waited to perform but still they had to agree it was an amazing night to experience from the crowd.

I feel so very blessed to have been invited to be a witness to another mark in the history of Coolout Network and Hip Hop in Seattle, WA.

Thank you Georgio Brown for your vision and due diligence...Thank you Kitty Wu for putting it all together...your passion for this event was seen, felt and recognized and to all the Coolout Network People, Scott Macklin, ITVNW, to The Crocodile and to all the other people that were involved in making this night a huge success...What an amazing event!

Stay tune as the production of the Top Left documentary continues and we get peaks into along the way...

NOTE: Again, I am sorry if I missed anyone's names or misspelled names.

Robert Gee
R&B Recording Artist

With a voice, described as a voice you can listen too all by itself that has a thick, creamy, honey butter presence and vocal prowess that cannot be taught Robert Gee hails from the city of Brotherly love, Philly! Where as the youngest of six children Rob can remember singing and dancing since the precocious age of 5. "When I was a little boy I would sing to my friends who lived behind me from my bedroom window. My mom would say I guess when you get up the whole house is suppose to get up...?"

Winner of a Settlement Music School scholarship for voice as a teen is how Robert received his classical training which led to the Philadelphia All City Choir and eventually joining "Opera Ebony" an acclaimed African-American Opera company and a place in "Who's Who In Music Among American Students!".

Gifted and graceful best describe this Entertainer ! Gee-Man is a bonifide triple threat! Robert is a Singer, Dancer, Actor and is a member of the S A G, AFTRA and AEA. Having been featured in numerous musical theater productions on the East and West Coast such as , The Wiz , Ain't Misbehavin , PIPPIN , Jesus Christ Superstar (In Armenia), and in Los Angeles where Robert now resides he's been featured in such critically acclaimed works as Robert Townsends THE FIVE HEARTBEATS LIVE!, Otis Sallids SPIRITUAL and Stephen Semiens CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT and the Legendary Emotions, BIGGER THAN BUBBLEGUM, and most recently Michael Ajakwe's Body Language.

Passionate is the word that comes to mind when you see and hear him live! Having done extensive nightclub work since he was a teen, Robert brings years of honing his craft as a front man for his band "A Different Class" to the stage but his ultimate testing grounds were when he was a vocal winner at the world famous "APOLLO THEATER AMATUER NIGHT!" and when PATTI LABELLE and STEPHANIE MILLS spotted the young Singer (whom they did not know) in their SRO audiences and came into the audience to share their microphones with Gee-Man to the delight of thousands!

Seasoned by and like many of the Artist he admires such as Donny Hathaway, Peabo Bryson, Luther Vandross Prince and Sting from the "old school". Brian McKnight, Gerald Levert, Maxwell and from the "new School"! Robert has had the distinguished pleasure of working with some of the industry's best, like VESTA, LUTHER VANDROSS, THE EMOTIONS, ATLANTIC STARR, BEE-BEE WINANS and TEENA MARIE.

Committed and determined, Robert is pursuing roles in motion pictures and television and made his screen debut in "THE LITTLE RICHARD STORY!" as Bossman!

Robert Gee has been hailed by the critics as "Worth Seeing!" LA Times, Robert Gee Burns through a fiery rendition of In Your Eyes! LA Weekly, Whether in group or solo the voice borders on spectacular!, LA Times.

Robert Gee gives a truly unforgettable performance, North Hollywood News! Like the "Philly Cheese Steak" Robert Gee is a classic. He's got the flavor that you savor and the presence of a true
